I began my training as a graphic artist at Syracuse University when the haberule was widely used to spec type and a Mac was a burger between a sesame seed bun. A lot has changed since those times, but the basic concepts of good communication remain constant: Who are we talking to? How do we get the attention of our intended audience? How do we clearly communicate our message? Good design starts with good listening—this is where I begin each creative project. Interpreting what each client wants to say and how to creatively express these ideas is the foundation of my work. Beyond that, a creative interplay of typography and images, good use of space, a strong sense of color all figure into my designs. Since 1987, I have worked with clients ranging from local nonprofit organizations, foundations, national parks, and businesses with graphic identity, print communications, distinctive publications, and more recently, a presence on the Web. As a designer, I strive to interpret effectively, communicate clearly, and contribute something of value to the world around me.
